Category: ALONZO MANN CLAIMS OWN PERJURY

In the early 1980s, Jewish-American reporters at The Tennessean newspaper located Leo Frank’s former office boy, Alonzo Mann (1898 – 1985), who had worked at the National Pencil Company factory in April 1913. In significantly later statements on March 4, 1982, and November 10, 1982, he claimed that his August 1913 trial testimony in the Fulton County Superior Courthouse Annex of Atlanta, Georgia, had been not been entirely forthcoming, concealing the truth and that he had lied under oath. Roughly seventy years after the murder, 1982, he offered a new version of events that shifted suspicion toward Jim Conley the factory sweeper. Those dubious claims were later used as part of an effort to secure Leo Frank’s full exoneration, an effort that ultimately did not succeed. Leo Frank was however issued a posthumous pardon in 1986 that did not absolve him of the Mary Phagan murder.
