Dalton a Man of Bad Reputation
Swear Walton County Citizens
Following Dalton, the defense put four Walton county citizens on the stand, all of whom testified to the man's bad reputation and stated that they would not believe him on oath or any other way.
They were V. S. Cooper, farmer and merchant, of Monroe; J. H. Patrick, carpenter and district bailiff; W. D. Michell, farmer, and I. M. Hamilton, formerly a clerk in Monroe, but now a farmer in the country near there.
Each one of the men, who proved to be of the average type of sturdy farmer, or fairly well-to-do citizen of a small town, told of knowing Dalton and of knowing of his past record. When asked if they would believe him on oath each one testified that he would not.
The solicitor did not cross-examine these men and not one of them stayed on the stand for more than a few minutes.
